Medical Director in Medical Science and Head of Clinical Medicine

Clinical Medicine is part of the programme area Medical Science in the Novo Nordisk Foundation. The area is dedicated to realising the Human Health part of the Foundations Strategy 2030, particularly pertaining to equitable solutions for cardiometabolic disease; obesity, diabetes, and cardiovascular disease. There are three departments in the area to cover the end-to-end value chain from basic discoveries to clinical implementation; Biomedicine, Translational Medicine, and Clinical Medicine. As Medical Director you would be part of Medical Science Management reporting to its Senior Vice President.
The Job
You will collaborate closely in a project centric manner with the other Management Team Directors and other areas of the Novo Nordisk Foundation and be responsible for grants applied for in competition through open calls, the operations of on-going strategic initiatives, and the development of new ones; driving the paradigm shift in cardiometabolic disease from management to cure, predicting and preventing disease, developing, and implementing precision medicine approaches in clinical care. You will also represent the Foundation externally as a recognized and trusted expert in your field. The job includes international travel.
Your main tasks will include:
- A valued and proactive member of Medical Science Management
- Line-manager of Clinical Medicine (currently 5 FTE’s)
- Committees for clinical open calls
- Chairing Steno-DK, the collaboration forum for the Steno Diabetes Centers
- Member of the Boards for the Steno Diabetes Centers
- Leading on developing our new national and international initiatives within cardiometabolic health
- Supporting the Senior Vice President of Medical Science on matters requiring medical expertise
- Representing Medical Science on national and international events
- Interacting with external stakeholders on strategic initiatives
Medical Science currently employs 35 highly qualified and ambitious colleagues; management, personal assistant- and team coordinators, scientific- and project managers. Professional Qualifications
We are looking for a Medical Director with an MD and PhD, and over 20 years of experience from academic and/or industry research and development.
We hope our candidate to be:
- A medical specialist, preferably within the area of cardiometabolic disease
- Experienced as a researcher at a post-doc plus level, preferably professor
- An inclusive leader valuing diversity and collaboration
- Understanding of the nature and culture of science as well as its ecosystem of stakeholders
- An expert in clinical trial or cohort design
- An expert in translational medicine
- Able to manage several complex projects simultaneously
- Excellent in communicating both written and verbally, especially in English
