A clinical position as consultant of urology at the Department of Urology at Zealand University Hospital is open for appointment from as soon as possible.

The position as consultant is combined with a 5-year externally funded position as clinical research associate professor in urology at the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen.

With this new position the Department of Urology, Zealand University Hospital wishes to strengthen the leadership in clinical research and teaching in collaboration with the University of Copenhagen.

It is a requirement that the applicant is accepted for appointment of both the clinical research associate professorship and the clinical position.

About the department

Organisation
The Department of Urology at Zealand University Hospital is responsible for all of the urological patients in Region Zealand. This entails more than 8000 hospitalized patients a year and about 30.000 out-patient visits. The department has 25 operating rooms available on a weekly basis and 11.000 surgeries are performed each year. This includes advanced treatment of urinary tract stones, kidney cancer, and superficial bladder cancer. There is access to state-of-the-art endo-urological equipment including Holmium and green light lasers and advanced instruments for percutaneous kidney stone removal and ESWL. For laparoscopic surgeries, the department has access to the Da Vinci Robotic surgical system.

Clinical functions and focus areas of the department
The department specializes in advanced surgical treatment of kidney cancer with 120 operations per year. These are primarily carried out as robot assisted partial nephrectomies and nephroureterectomies. Furthermore, the department specializes in the advanced treatment of urinary stones with extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy, ureteroscopic lithotripsy, and percutaneous nephrolithotomy.

Research and teaching
In considering applications for the clinical research associate professorship, the main emphasis will be on the applicant’s ability to document a high level of original scientific work within the area of urology.

The department is a part of Zealand University Hospital, and as such we welcome medical students during their training and we have a constant flow of young doctors who are specializing within urology. A main responsibility of the position as clinical research associate professor will be to plan and oversee organized teaching programs for both students and future urologists.

With the new position as consultant of urology and clinical research associate professor of urology the Department of Urology at Zealand University Hospital wishes to strengthen leadership in clinical research and teaching.

Qualifications
For the position as consultant:

Applicants for a position as consultant must be board-certified specialist in urology with documented clinical expertise and experience in robot assisted laparoscopic surgery as this will be a cornerstone in the clinical responsibilities.

Conditions
In order to be considered, the applicant must send an application to both the Faculty (the clinical research associate professorship) and to the hospital (the clinical position) cf. the simultaneously advertised position of the clinical research associate professorship. Appointment is conditioned by the fact that the applicant obtains both positions. This also applies to the applicants who are already employed as consultants at Zealand University Hospital. Salary and conditions of employment as consultant are as agreed between the Danish Regions and the Danish Association of Medical Specialists and between the Capital Region/Region Zealand and University of Copenhagen.

As clinical research associate professor at least 50 % of the working time will be allocated to academic tasks (e.g. research, teaching, evaluation tasks and communication with the public) in agreement with the Head of Department of Clinical Medicine at the University of Copenhagen. The remaining time will be allocated for clinical work in agreement with the head of Department of Urology at Zealand University Hospital.
