A clinical position as consultant of endocrinology at the Department of Medicine, Køge, at Zealand University Hospital is open for appointment from as soon as possible.

The position is combined with a 5-year externally funded position as clinical professor of endocrinology with special focus on endocrinological research at the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen.

With this new position the Department of Medicine, Køge, Zealand University Hospital wishes to strengthen the leadership in clinical research and teaching in collaboration with the University of Copenhagen.

It is a requirement that the applicant is accepted for appointment of both the professorship and the consultancy.

About the department

The Department of Medicine includes four wards with a total of 90 beds. Two of these units are primarily intended for treating patients with gastroenterological/hepatic disorders; 1 unit primary treats patients with endocrine disorders and patients with internal medical disorders, while 1 unit primarily treats patients within geriatrics. The department performs regional functions in the fields of endocrinology and gastroenterology/hepatology.

The endocrinology outpatient clinic treats patients with a broad cross-section of endocrine disorders, including all kinds of diabetes including treatment with insulin pumps, metabolic diseases, adrenal gland disorders and diseases related to calcium metabolism. The outpatient clinic has its own DXA scanners and performs 3,000 scans per year. Specialized nurses in the endocrine outpatient clinic have their own outpatient visits. The clinic has its own equipment for retinal photography as well as a clinic for feet problems for patients with diabetes. The latter is in a collaboration structure with the Department for Orthopaedics. Research activities into endocrinology are mainly concerned with diabetology and osteoporosis.

The department has a large gastroenterology/hepatology outpatient clinic with approximately 5,000 associated patients. There, we treat patients with a broad spectrum of gastroenterological/hepatological diseases. Within geriatrics we offer treatment and diagnostic investigations to patients with typical geriatric problems, among those frailty, problems related to polypharmacy and dementia disorders.

Research and teaching

With the new position as consultant in endocrinology and clinical professor of endocrinology with special focus on endocrinological research the Department of Medicine wishes to strengthen leadership in clinical research and teaching.

Qualifications

Applicants must be board-certified specialist in endocrinology.

Conditions

In order to be considered, the applicant must send send two applications: one to the Faculty (the professorship) and one to the hospital (the consultancy) cf. the simultaneously advertised position of the professorship. Appointment is conditioned by the fact that the applicant obtains both positions. This also applies to the applicants who are already employed as consultants at Zealand University Hospital.

Salary and conditions of employment as consultant are as agreed between the Danish Regions and the Danish Association of Medical Specialists and between the Capital Region/Region Zealand and University of Copenhagen.

As clinical professor at least 50 % of the working time will be allocated to academic tasks (e.g. research, teaching, evaluation tasks and communication with the public) in agreement with the Head of Department of Department of Clinical Medicine at the University of Copenhagen. The remaining time will be allocated for clinical work in agreement with the head of the Department of Medicine, Køge, at Zealand University Hospital. The clinical professor will receive secretarial or technical support equivalent to 50 % of a full time secretary position from the Department of Medicine. Additional support and details on the working conditions must be negotiated with the head of the Department of Medicine, Køge, at Zealand University Hospital.
