A clinical position as consultant of Anaesthesia at the Department of Anaesthesiology at Zealand University Hospital (ZUH) is open for appointment from as soon as possible.

The position as consultant will be with affiliation with the Department of Anaesthesia at ZUH, Roskilde or the Department of Anaesthesia at ZUH, Køge.

The position is combined with with a 5-year externally funded position as clinical professor of Anaesthesiology with special focus on Perioperative Pain Treatment at the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen.

With this new position the Department of Anesthesia at ZUH, Roskilde or the Department of Anesthesia at ZUH, Køge, wishes to strengthen the leadership in clinical research and teaching in collaboration with the University of Copenhagen.

It is a requirement that the applicant is accepted for appointment of both the professorship and the consultancy.

THE DEPARTMENT

Organization

The Region of Zealand has a population of approximately 820.000 citizens who are under the care of four hospital units. The Zealand University Hospital constitutes one of these units and has a single hospital management. The hospital has approximately 700 beds and cover most medical specialties. The Departments of Anesthesiology is located in Køge and Roskilde.

Description of the two departments

Zealand University Hospital, Køge is a level 2 trauma center and admits acute patients around the clock.

The Department of Anaesthesiology specializes in airway management, postoperative pain treatment and ultrasound guided regional anesthesia.

The Intensive Care Unit has a special interest in sedation, delirium, rehabilitation and late complications following ICU treatment.

The Anesthesia Research Unit does ongoing research concerning the following areas: acute/postoperative pain, chronic pain, regional anesthesia, aftercare/rehabilitation after ICU treatment and perioperative medicine.

The department is committed to highest level of quality of care with a strong focus on research and teaching. The hospital has 17 operating theatres, which cater for several major types of adult surgery. These include, faciomaxillary surgery, oral surgery, ENT/head and neck surgery, orthopaedic surgery and general surgery.

  • Intensive Care Unit (8 beds). Level 2 treatment of medical and surgical patients including dialysis.
  • Non-malignant Pain Clinic with multidisciplinary treatment of chronic pain.
  • Anesthesia Research Unit Headed by a Clinical Research Associate Professor and includes a varying number of Ph.D.- and Scholar students.

Zealand University Hospital, Roskilde is a hospital with many medical and surgical departments with specialized functions.

The Department of Anaeshesiology specializes in airway management and ultrasound guided regional anesthesia.

The Anesthesia Research Unit has/does ongoing research concerning the following areas: acute/postoperative pain, regional anesthesia and perioperative medicine. . The Intensive Care Unit participitates in several multicenter studies.

The department is committed to highest level of quality of care with a strong focus on research, and teaching. The hospital has 15 operating theatres, which cater for several major types of adult surgery. These include Urology, Surgery, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Plastic Surgery and Breast Surgery and Ophtalmology

  • Intensive Care Unit (7 beds). Level 2 treatment of medical and surgical patients
  • Anesthesia Research Unit Headed by a Clinical Research Associate Professor and includes a varying number of Ph.D.

The consultant will be affiliated to one of these departments until the coming merger in 2024.

In 2024 the Zealand University Hospital becomes the main regional hospital with a centralization of all medical specialties and a total of 835 beds.

Research and teaching

This newly created position as Clinical Professor at the Department of Anaesthesiology is part of the departmental ambition to strengthen clinical research and teaching.

Qualifications

The applicant must be a board-certified specialist in Anaesthesia. The applicant must have special clinical and research interest in perioperative pain-management.

Conditions

In order to be considered the applicant must send an application to both the Faculty (the professorship) and to the hospital (the consultancy) of the simultaneously advertised position of the professorship. To be appointment it is required that the applicant is accepted in both positions. This also applies to potential applicants who are already employed as consultants at Zealand University Hospital.

Salary and conditions of employment as consultant are as agreed between the Danish Regions and the Danish Association of Medical Specialists and between the Capital Region/Region Zealand and University of Copenhagen.

As clinical professor, at least 50 % of the working time will be allocated to academic tasks (e.g. research, teaching, evaluation tasks and communication with the public) in cooperation with the head of the Department of Clinical Medicine at the University of Copenhagen. The remaining time will be allocated to clinical work as agreed with the head of the Department of Anaesthesiology, Zealand University Hospital. The clinical professor will receive secretarial or technical support equivalent to 50 % of a full time secretary position from the department.
