About Copenhagen Health Science Partners

Greater Copenhagen is an international hub for academic health sciences, state-of-the-art patient care and global companies within life science and medical technology – but we want to go further.

Copenhagen Health Science Partners is a new venture between the University of Copenhagen and the Capital Region of Denmark tasked with identifying, supporting and promoting collaboration between clinical academia and basic health science concerning research, education and infrastructure. Created with top-level support from both organisations, Copenhagen Health Science Partners possesses sufficient resources to significantly strengthen clinical and translational research through the establishment of Clinical Academic Groups across various pre-clinical and clinical fields.

The position

The director will be responsible for the strategic and academic development of Copenhagen Health Science Partners, including translational and clinical research and education embedded within the partnership.

We are looking for a respected academic leader who is able to clearly represent the partnership nationally, internationally and among the academic staff and students of the partner organisations.

Responsibilities:

• Contributing to a clear vision and strategy for the further development of Copenhagen Health Science Partners
• Executing the vision and activities laid out in the joint roadmap for Copenhagen Health Science Partners
• Search and selection of the Clinical Academic Group leaders in close cooperation with the Executive Board
• Overall management of the Clinical Academic Groups in close cooperation with their individual leaders and the Executive Board
• Daily management of the Copenhagen Health Science Partners secretariat and the development of a working relationship with the partner administrations
• Budget and finances for Copenhagen Health Science Partners

You will establish and chair an academic leadership group within Copenhagen Health Science Partners that comprises, at a minimum, the individual Clinical Academic Group leaders.

The director will report to the Executive Board of Copenhagen Health Science Partners in matters related to its strategic development, while matters concerning the day-to-day business and progress of Copenhagen Health Science Partners will be reported to the joint chairmanship of the Executive Board.

Profile

You are a visionary leader with proven results within research management, organisation and international collaboration.

You are an internationally recognised researcher within the field of health and medical sciences and preferably with clinical experience from either research and/or clinical management.

You understand the barriers to translational research and you are dedicated to removing them through collaboration and the empowerment of talented people.

You are able to envision and suggest methods that bridge the gap between knowing (research) and doing (clinical practice) in large systems.

You are able to build solid relationships and navigate seamlessly at top management level and in the scientific community within the partner organisations.

You are an excellent communicator with the ability to translate complex issues to a diverse set of stakeholders, and you know how to operate in a setting where politics, finances, academia and business must come together to succeed.

Terms and conditions

The director will be employed at the University of Copenhagen under the dean of the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences.

The position is full-time. Please indicate in your application if you wish to continue in active research, education or innovation. In this regard, the extent and conditions involved, including time and resources, will be subject to negotiation and agreement with the Executive Board.

The director is employed in accordance with a collective agreement between the Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations.

This is a fixed-term position of five years with the possibility of a three-year extension by mutual agreement. The successful applicant will be expected to begin on 1 March 2017, or as agreed.

The salary, which will reflect the applicant’s qualifications and the requirements of the position, includes: basic salary, a fixed-term supplement and an allowance for special qualifications, if applicable.

Interviews will be conducted by the Copenhagen Health Science Partner Board, which is chaired by the CEO of the Capital Region of Denmark and the rector of the University of Copenhagen.

Interviews will be held 5 January 2017 and 13 January 2017. The selection process may include relevant tests.
